Merit List / Admission Rules


• Candidates applying for the first year of the course must have • a Bachelor’s Degree in any faculty from a statutory University. Those who have appeared for their final degree examination may also apply, but their admission (in case they are selected on the basis of performance in the Aptitude Test) will be confirmed only after they submit the final degree examination mark-list.

• A) All candidates must appear for the Aptitude Test on the date specified in the admission notice. Admission is strictly on merit in the Aptitude Test in their respective categories.

The aptitude test consists of written examination and personal interview. After the written test, a list of candidates of Open category qualified to appear for personal interviews and DTP test will be displayed on the department's notice board. The no. of candidates in this list will be up to three times the number of seats available for the Open Category. All the candidates from the Reserve Categories who appear for the written test will be invited for interview and DTP test.

The test for admission seeks to assess candidate’s ability, aptitude and media awareness. It consists of a written test (100 marks) and a personal interview (25 marks) The written test consists of questions on composition (essay, précis, comprehension/translation) carrying 50 marks, and questions on current events, general knowledge, and media awareness carrying 50 marks. The personal interview is conducted by a panel of three experts including the Head of the Department.


The DTP test shall consist of coping the content and format of an A-4 size page given to the candidate at the time of test using MS-Word/ PageMaker. Candidates will be given content to type in the language chosen by them(English or Marathi) to answer the written test of 100 marks. Candidates typing speed, knowledge of formating and other processes (From creating a file to printing will be assesed in this test.)

If any of the selected candidates fails to report in time or to pay the respective fees, it will be assumed that he/she is not interested in joining the course. Such seats will be offered to candidates on the waiting list.


Applying for more than one course M.A + Diploma in Jounralism (English or Marathi)
The written test will have questions in Marathi and English. A candidate will have option to write in any one of the two languages. Upon deciding the language of answers in Written Examination, candidates can apply for maximum two courses. Candidates planning to write answers in Marathi can apply for M.A. (M.C.J.) and Diploma in Journalism (Marathi Medium) ONLY and candidates willing to write answers in English can apply for M.A. (M.C.J.) and Diploma in Journalism (English Medium) ONLY.
