Following the major changes in the areas of
media and communication in 80s and foreseeing even bigger changes lying
ahead, University of Pune established Department of Communication
Studies in 1990 to produce competent communication professionals for the
new era and take the academic discipline of Communication Studies beyond
journalism. The name and the course are thus in tune with the trends in
academics as well as the industry.
Department has been successfully running a two years Masters course in
Communication Studies (M.Cm.S.). While expanding the scope of the course
beyond print journalism Department has identified television and other
areas of mass communication as thrust areas. Within this scope
Department offers specialization in Video Production and Media Research.
Over the years Department has also incorporated new areas like corporate
communication, media planning, broadcast journalism, political
communication into the scope of syllabus.
Our constant endeavor to tune to the demands of the ever changing media
industry and maintain high academic standards has earned Department its
reputation as one of the best courses in the field of Communication
Studies in India. With quality academic inputs, growing infrastructural
support and a student friendly environment, Department has attracted
students from across the country and abroad. The varied and bright
career paths our alumni have been following in various television
channels, production houses, print and broadcast journalism, corporate
communication offices, advertising and PR agencies, content development
companies, media and market research organizations, education and NGO
