Following the major changes in the areas of media and communication in 80s and foreseeing even bigger changes lying ahead, University of Pune established Department of Communication Studies in 1990 to produce competent communication professionals for the new era and take the academic discipline of Communication Studies beyond journalism. The name and the course are thus in tune with the trends in academics as well as the industry.
